Biography

Ashley Davis Hymel is a former English teacher and now a part-time editor at Great Minds Wit & Wisdom where she authored, A Library of Our Own, an early reader book within a sixteen book Geodes Library Collection for first graders. In elementary school, Ashley’s second-grade teacher, Mrs. Menne, introduced her to the magic of books by reciting quirky, imaginative Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelusky poems. Ashley’s passion for literacy fueled a career in education as books powerfully transform readers by opening their minds to the world. Ashley earned both her B.A. and M.Ed. from Louisiana State University, is a graduate of Children’s Book Academy, and a member of SCBWI and the Debut Picture Book Study Group. She resides in Houston, Texas with her husband, two children, and their family dog, Charlotte, aptly named after E.B. White’s beloved, spider.

10 Influential Books of My Childhood

Growing up, my nose was always stuck in a book. While I  rarely met a book I didn't  fall in love with, these titles were some my favorites as a child.

“‘Why did you do all this for me?’ he asked. 'I don't deserve it. I've never done anything for you.' 'You have been my friend,’ replied Charlotte. 'That in itself is a tremendous thing.’”
